Chuck Brown, pioneer of Washington D.C.'s go-go funk scene, died earlier today at Johns Hopkins University Hospital in Baltimore. He was 75.

Brown, who is best known for his hit "Bustin' Loose" (interpolated on Nelly's 2002 single "Hot in Herre"), had apparently been ill for some time, and was hospitalized with pneumonia on April 18.

Picking up hitchhikers is risky: There's always a chance you'll get a weirdo. That's what happened earlier today to Here We Go Magic, but the Ohio foursome didn't wind up with just any oddball. They landed the king: Film director John Waters, the mustachioed man behind such classic films as "Pink Flamingos" and "Crybaby."

"Just picked up John Waters hitchhiking in the middle of Ohio.. No joke. Waters in the van," the band tweeted this morning, eliciting some skepticism from followers.

We had also been working with the very talented Ben Tabas around that same time on some live projections for our shows, and we knew his style would be perfect for a fun and retro video featuring some ridiculous roller dancing. Burlington, Ontario band Walk Off The Earth's cover of Gotye's "Somebody That I Used to Know" has gone from viral video sensation to full-on viral pandemic.

According to a press release today, the group's YouTube video -- which features all five members performing the song on one guitar -- recently passed 100,000,000 views, making it "the most popular cover song ever posted on YouTube."

The song, which as of Wednesday afternoon stands officially at 107,448,843 views, garnered attention globally. The group also caught the attention of Ellen DeGeneres who invited Walk Off the Earth to perform on her show. You have to give American politicians some credit as it's been several weeks since anyone's been caught using an artist's music without permission. But according to Punknews that streak came to an end over the weekend when Boston band Dropkick Murphys called out Wisconsin Republican Jeff Fitzgerald for using "Shipping Up to Boston" in a campaign stop.

"We just got word that Wisconsin State Rep and Speaker of the State Assembly Jeff Fitzgerald used 'Shipping Up to Boston' as his walk-on song yesterday at the Wisconsin GOP Convention in Green Bay," the band wrote in a Facebook post. "The stupidity and irony of this is laughable. When you're listening to your iTunes on shuffle and it kicks out Interpol, the Bravery or She Wants Revenge, you probably have a hard time distinguishing between them, right? We don't mean to beat a 2006-era joke into the ground, but they all do sound kinda the same. Which is quite unlike their spiritual fathers, '70s British post-punkers Joy Division.

Now that's a band that still sounds unique to this day. Perhaps that's why Disney has gone so far as to cop Joy Division style for shirts, why there are Joy Division walking tours, or why former Joy Division bassist Peter Hook continues desperately selling himself on the back of the band's ghost.

Forty-seven years after the release of his first single, "Catch the Wind," Donovan was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Coinciding with the honor was the release of a double-disc compilation of his music, The Essential Donovan, which covers the years 1965 to 1973, and contains four songs that had either not been issued in the U.S. or available in the U.S. in CD form.

Donovan, who turned 66 on May 10, says that he has been inspired him to perform live again, which he'll be doing this summer and in the fall. During a visit to New York, he spoke to Spinner about being inducted into the Rock Hall, the new anthology set, the early days with Bob Dylan, his friendship with the Beatles, and his involvement with the David Lynch Foundation, which promotes Transcendental Meditation.

Congratulations on your recent induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. How does it feel to finally get in?

Awards have been coming as the work gains in weight and critical acclaim and historical meaning. But this one is the largest, it's more like an Academy Award because so few are awarded every year and it's by our peers. If Jay-Z succeeds in booking President Obama for his two-day Budweiser Made in America festival, set to go down in Philly over Labor Day weekend, Hova and the POTUS will have at least one thing to chat about backstage: their shared support of gay marriage.

Leonard Cohen took home the Glenn Gould Prize last night at a star-studded ceremony at Toronto's Massey Hall. But the legend then promptly gave the $50,000 reward which came with it to the Canada Council for the Arts as a generous donation.

Cohen mentioned the Canada Council for the Arts in a brief speech saying "without the help and encouragement of the Canada Council, I would never have written The Favorite Game or The Spice Box of Earth," referring to early writing works.

One of the rare gems in indie queen Feist's discography will once again be available to the public -- if you own a turntable, that is.

The "1,2,3,4" singer and past-Broken Social Scene member announced on Twitter yesterday that she was re-releasing her "lost" first album Monarch: Lay Your Jewelled Head Down on limited edition vinyl.

"Found some Monarch on vinyl if you want it. =)," she wrote, before linking back to her online store.

Amy Winehouse may have appeared fearless, what with her tattoos, heavy drinking, drug use and all, but she wasn't immune to looking over her shoulder. According to Mark Ronson, the producer behind her breakthrough Back to Black album, the beehived songstress felt "freaked out" and intimidated by the success of fellow British singer Adele.

"She liked her," Ronson said in a recent interview with the Village Voice, "but Adele's success was making Amy feel upset, competitive, restless."

Ronson says he discovered this while he and Winehouse were in talks to begin work on a new album.
