Pop Montreal's Annual Nacho House Party Busted by Police

At its inaugural loft party at last year's edition of Pop Montreal, Ottawa-based rock group Hollerado introduced the Nacho House concept: a late-night mixture of booze, bands and a supply of the group's own special nacho recipe.

For their return this year, the organizers needed to one-up themselves. Finding a new, more central location, they branched out from the energetic indie rock that dominated last year's lineup, booking live hip-hop group Grand Analog to close the festivities.

But the group never got to lay down a single rhyme.

By midnight, the party started to turn into a sweaty mess of bodies intermingling with industry. Hotly tipped New York group the Postelles played a furious early '60s inspired set that motivated several attendees to crowd surf in the tiny loft.

They were followed by the raucous rock stylings of Toronto's Dinosaur Bones, pictured, who cranked up the volume and sent the crowd -- now overflowing into the hall -- into a tizzy of sweat-induced gyrations. Packed like sardines trapped in a smoke-filled tin can, the audience grew louder as the band previewed material from their upcoming album, due out early next year.

Around three quarters of the way through their set, the feeling in the room switched from euphoria to unease. As the back of the room tensed, the band played on, unaware that, mere feet away from them, Montreal's finest had entered the second story loft and begun demanding the party be shut down.

Miraculously, the group managed to wrap up just before the cops forced the crowd to disperse onto the street blow, leaving Grand Analog's Odario Williams to sit in quiet disillusionment onstage as his band's set evaporated.

The kids would have the last laugh, however, as nearly 20 minutes after the cops finished their sweep of the premises, the Postelles took over the make-shift DJ booth and the party once again raged well into the morning hours.

Watch Dinosaur Bones perform just as the cops enter the party below:

Germany's Atari Teenage Riot (also known as ATR) were ready to rock when they tore threw their set with all the energy you'd expect from a hardcore techno band.

The band, which started out in the early 90's, are very political and have used their powerful lyrics in the past to speak out about their anti-nazi and anti-facist views.

By Saturday night it wasn't really a secret anymore, but the secret Deerhoof performance at the Little Burgundy Loft at Espace Reunion for Pop Montreal saw a gradually filling venue that was never fully packed.

The San Francisco quartet took to the stage at their non-secretive 2AM time slot, playing to the late partygoers celebrating the second-to-last night of the festivities.

The band's playfulness and youthful vibrancy shone as they jumped around playing hits spanning their entire 15-year discography.

Lead singer Satomi Matsuzaki may be tiny in stature and practically invisible to people standing at the back of the venue, but her remarkable child-like singing and bouncy robotic dance moves is what sets this band apart.

Pop Montreal 2010

Every step and hop was met with quirky force of riffs and catchy rhythms as Matsuzaki's meek and whimsical voice poked through.

Pop Montreal 2010

Pop Montreal won't be the end of for the band. The San Francisco rock group will continue performing across the U.S. this month alongside Xiu Xiu and Father Murphy.

Pop Montreal 2010

Clad in all white, a glossy blue Miami Dolphins jacket, his signature blond mohawk pouring over to one side and a face coated with bright dramatic make-up, O'Regan dazzled the Pop Montreal crowd with songs off his upcoming record 'Special Affections.'

Pop Montreal 2010

O'Regan gave the audience a true performance, jumping between playing behind his keyboard and doing his choreographed moves which consist of lots of dramatic poses and voguing.
