Neil Young, 'Walk With Me' -- Video Premiere

If the video for Neil Young's 'Walk With Me' looks like the famed singer-songwriter is actually playing the song live, it's because he is -- this is footage from the studio, during the actual recording. The track is the first song off Young's upcoming release, 'Le Noise,' a guitar-driven beast featuring just Young without a backing band.

There are, however, sonic flourishes from none other than famed Grammy-winner Daniel Lanois, who produced the album. The two have known each other for years but this marks their first collaboration and the result is as unexpectedly natural -- and as awesome -- as the time Paul Simon teamed up with Brian Eno.

"It's hard to come up with a new sound at the back end of 50 years of rock 'n' roll," Lanois said in a press release. "But I think we did it."

Despite the fact that there are no drums and bass, 'Walk With Me' is, in every way, a rock song. It rages as hard as Young's material with Crazy Horse while retaining the immediacy of his folk stuff and, with each chord, the vibrations somehow shoot right through you. Sometimes it's the guitar itself that sounds that good, but this time, Young certainly has something to do with it. You can see it in every grimace that he makes as he pours himself into each note in this song. Check it out first hand by watching the video below.

I like what they did with that. That guitar has a stereo output, so the signal from the bottom three strings, and the top three strings are sent separately. Then the producer used different effects on each signal, very cool stuff...

Neil is still relevant. His voice is as good as ever. There is part of this song where he hits some high notes in a way that reminded me of Pete Townsend and I really loved it. If he's heading in a spiritual direction, well that's great because all of us who have been following Neil for so long have always know that Mr. Young is a very spiritual dude. Partnering with Daniel Lanois is very exciting and I'm looking forward to hearing some very cool sounds from this duo that we owe so much too! Rock on Neil!
