Kings of Leon Concert Shut Down by Pigeons

The Kings of Leon were playing a concert in St. Louis, Mo. Saturday when they were attacked by an unlikely heckler: pigeons. The birds were hanging out in the rafters of the Verizon Amphitheatre when they proceeded to relieve themselves on bassist Jared Followill, prompting the band to cut the show short after just three songs.

According to the band's management, pigeon poop landed on Followill's face during the opening song of the night, 'Closer,' CNN reports. Followill was hit again on his arms during the next two songs. Though his bass tech was on hand to wipe off the mess, Followill is reportedly a germophobe, and was understandably distracted by the onslaught.

"I was hit by pigeons on each of the first three songs," Followill said. "We had 20 songs on the set list. By the end of the show, I would have been covered from head to toe."

""The last thing I was going to do was look up ... but if that was only a couple, we must have caught them right after a big Thanksgiving dinner," he added.

The band had been told of a "pigeon infestation" problem at the venue, but venue organizers assured the band that the situation was under control. However, the Kings of Leon's openers, the Postelles and the Stills, both came off stage reporting of pigeon poop problems. The headliners then decided to proceed with the set and assess the situation themselves -- with unfortunate consequences.

Followill phoned his mother after the called-off show. "I was attacked," he told her, "but not by humans."

The band's summer tour continues as scheduled with a show in Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio on Monday.

must have been lousy music and the birds didnt like the sounds of it or there our nest near the stage every city should have falcons of the highest building they keep the pigeon in check by having them for lunch.

i have been to Verizon here in St. Louis numerous times for concerts this year and sat under the overhang where the pigeons where supposed to be. none of the concerts i went to had that problem. so i seriously doubt it was an "infestation". nor were there any birds flying around during any of the concerts i was at. instead of walking off, maybe the guy should have just moved to a different spot on stage as he was the only one that got hit, makes me think that the pigeons weren't all over the place in the rafters. also livenation is offering refunds for the concert.
