Unseen Beatles Pictures Show Unguarded Home Lives

It's the Beatles, but not as we know them. A cache of previously unpublished shots of the Fab Four show them hanging out on their own doorsteps.

This collection is the work of Sue Baker, who aged 15 tracked down the stars to their own homes. She found them so welcoming that the teen fan popped back every weekend for two years, leaving with snaps of the band in laid-back mood --Ringo Starr with a cigarette in his hand, for instance -- or intriguing details, such as the graffiti that Mick Jagger and Marianne Faithfull left on George Harrison's wall.

Now a 59-year-old grannie, Baker is looking to auction off the photos she took between 1965 to 1967. As reported in the Mail on Sunday, the young fan originally found Paul McCartney's home after reading a description in a Beatles magazine. He gave her the addresses for his bandmates and said, "Go and bang on their doors as well."

So Baker looked up John Lennon and Ringo in Weybridge, Surrey, and Harrison in nearby Esher. As befits a more innocent age, members of the biggest band in the world happily chatted to fans, Baker explains. "I remember John saying that if it weren't for people like me he wouldn't live in such a nice house."

The sale takes place at Cameo Specialist Auctioneers, Reading, Berkshire, Aug. 3.

I saw The Beatles in Montreal, Canada, in September 1964. It was the first day of school (Roman Catholic High School Convent)in Ottawa, and my mother pulled my sister and me out for the afternoon. We took the train to Montreal, had dinner (mother/daughter bonding thing, as you can most likely gather) and went to the concert. (My Dad, thank God, was in Atlanta on business otherwise none of this would have happened. "The who?" "No Dad, The Beatles!" Dusty Springfield and a few others were on the bill at the old Montreal Forum (hockey arena!). The Beatles were on for approximately 25-30 minutes, but each minute was total joy. In those days, "flash cubes" were what you used on your camera to take photos in the dark. There were so many flash cubes going off at the same time that you would have thought that every single light in the Forum was on. The whole experience was totally fabulous (i.e., "fab"). My sister and I remained relatively silent, just trying to watch and hear everything that our boys were saying and playing on stage. In the meantime, my mother was screaming "Ringo! Ringo!" at the top of her lungs. After the concert, we took the train back to Ottawa and back to reality. It's something that I will never, ever forget, thanks to my long-gone Mom, who actually paid someone to stand in line for 26 hours to buy the tickets for the concert! I still adore The Beatles and often listen to their tunes, but no one can Beat(le) my Mom.

dear sharon crawford: I loved your comments. I lived in San Jose and I missed the Beatles the first time they came to San Francisco. But the following year, 1965, I went to both shows at the Cow Palace. I was only about 30 yards from John. Being that close I could easily hear them sing in spite of the hysteria around me. It's funny to think of how sophisticated the speaker systems are now for every concert plus the lighting, etc. In the second show someone, a guy, came from the audience behind the band and somehow got on stage a went for John's cap that he was wearing and then immediately escaped into the audience in front. I can't believe, even to this day that he stole John Lennon's cap! One of the things that impressed me is that they left the house lights on and you could look around and see everyone (screaming!) we saw them, they saw us. Just as you described they performed for about 20+ minutes. We didn't care, it was history and we were apart of it. (Film at 11)The next year I went to both shows at Candlestick Park and then I went to the airport to wave good-bye as they boarded their private plane. I had no idea that aside from the roof top performance that would be the last public performance that Beatles would ever do. I could go on and on but I feel very honored to have been to 4 performances. And like you, I will never, ever forget what I saw and heard. God Bless Us, everyone.

Har, har, loufalce. You'd have to live in a cave alone with no electricity or batteries or anything to communicate with the outside world and THEN I would believe you don't know who they are (were). Otherwise you are merely being obtuse.
