Land of Talk Reveal Fall Tour Dates, 'Cloak and Cipher' Album Art

With their second album, 'Cloak and Cipher,' due Aug. 24, Canadian indie-pop trio Land of Talk have announced a five-week fall tour, starting Sept. 16 at Lee's Palace in Toronto. Along with numerous headlining dates, they'll also join Canadian psych-rockers the Besnard Lakes for seven dates on the West Coast.

'Cloak and Cipher' promises to be the trio's highest profile release to date, after 2008's 'Some are Lakes' and a string of EPs over the last four years. For the album, vocalist/songwriter Elizabeth Powell has settled down with Eoin O Laoghaire on bass and Andrew Barr on drums, but they've also managed to wrangle a few Canadians to help them with the cause. The Besnard Lakes' Jace Lasek takes on production duties, Patrick Watson handles piano on the song 'The Hate I Won't Commit' and Arcade Fire drummer Jeremy Gara lends some rhythmic help on 'Quarry Hymns.'

Also of note is the inspiration behind 'Cloak and Cipher.' The songs emerged from a rather weird place Powell found herself in: After she was forced to cancel a tour in 2009 due to a hemorrhaged vocal polyp, she wrote the record in a rather solitary state, utilizing Garageband on the initial takes. Here's hoping this time around those vocal chords get a hefty dose of herbal teas.
