John Lennon Solo Albums Re-Mastered to Mark 70th Birthday

John Lennon's solo back catalogue has received the digital remastering treatment to mark what would have been the former Beatle's 70th birthday on Oct. 9 of this year.

The BBC reports that Yoko Ono joined forces with engineers in New York and at Abbey Road Studios in London to remove some instrumentation from eight of Lennon's solo records, including 1971's 'Imagine,' his album of covers versions 'Rock 'n' Roll' and the final album Lennon made before he was murdered on Dec. 8 1980, 'Double Fantasy.'

Ono said that she hoped the new releases will "help bring his incredible music to a whole new audience."

She said of the remastering project, "By remastering 121 tracks spanning his solo career, I hope also that those who are already familiar with John's work will find renewed inspiration from his incredible gifts as a songwriter, musician and vocalist and from his power as a commentator on the human condition.

"His lyrics are as relevant today as they were when they were first written."

Speaking of the 'Double Fantasy' album, which explored the domestic joys of Lennon's life with Yoko and young son Sean, Ono said, "It was whilst working on the new version of this album that I was hit hardest emotionally as this was the last album John released before his passing."

Yoko is neither doing this for the money nor to keep John's memory alive...She is doing it because she craves attention... just like she did in 1968 when she embarked on a crusade to break up John's marriage to Cynthia and then persuaded John to back her unbelievably lack of ability as a singer/songwriter. Much to the huge embaressment of john's fans a contempories...

I was at MSG when I heard of the tragic murder of John.. I used to drive to the corner of West 72 and Central Park West to maybe see John so I can say " Hello " to him. I was at the gathering for him. We were chanting " give peace a chance " all day. After awhile around dusk, snowflakes were coming down. We were all in " Awe " thinking John heard us chanting and responding in spirit to it. It was very inspirational as to thinking his spirit was with us forever more. I wrote a poem dedicated to John titled " Here lies Strawberry Fields ". I sent the poem to Yoko, but I never recieved any response, or recognition for it.I really do'nt mind it but, I would have loved to have seen it at the site where Johns' ashes were laid which is " Strawberry Fields " in Central Park by The Dakota entrance area at the Park.. His solo records should be remastered to the best brilliant sound for a brilliant sounding performer that he always was." Imagine " should'nt be removed whatsoever because that was his best and most inspiring song. If John would've been still been around during the 911 attacks, I know he would've done a very deidicated song(s) and concerts because he loved our Country, and especially New York City to the Max.. I would love to see Paul, Ringo, and Julian perform in unison in rememberence of John, and George also. Sean would be awesome to see with them also. Let's have George Harrisons' solo albums remastered also. The Beatles were the greatest group and all of the members of the group should be remembered even Paul, and Ringo who I am happy to know r still here and still perform for all us Beatle fans..

I agree that Yoko Ono's terrible, shrieking voice is the only thing that needs to be removed from John Lennon's music! I imagine it is in the state he wanted it to be when he released it. Iffin it ain't broke don't fix it!!

Sometimes you just don't mess with perfection. You are correct, John released it the way he wanted it. What next, YOKO doing a duet with Johns likeness in the background.

No. Yoko is NOT doing this to "keep Lennon alive" or any other faux-artistic reason. She's doing it for C-A-S-H. How do I know? Because she sold his music to a freakin' shoe company. Despite all his years of saying he didn't want his music used for that. Yoko will tell you that she gave the money to charity. Hey, Yoko: You're the wealthiest widow ever. WRITE A CHEQUE.
