Sir Paul McCartney has revealed he is to compose the music for a ballet. The former Beatle, who has tentatively commenced writing told The Sun, "I'm interested in doing things I haven't done before. That offer came up and I love writing music. The two went together and I said, `Yeah.' I accept things before I know what I'm doing."It's not the first foray into classical music Sir Paul has made. In 1991 saw the Liverpudlian produce his first orchestral score for 'Liverpool Oratorio' while his most recent work, 'Ecce Cor Meum,' or 'Behold My Heart,' was completed in 2006.
When asked for more details on the project Sir Paul admitted, "I don't really know that much about it yet. I'm just writing music for it, but it's a switch!"
Sir Paul also spoke of his recent visit to the White house where he was honoured with America's Gershwin Prize, awarded for a lifetime contribution to popular music.
By all accounts a very special night, Sir Paul performed 'Michelle' with a nod to the First Lady. The knight-of-the-realm said, "I start singing Michelle, and he (Barack Obama) starts singing it to her. I couldn't believe it, he's singing the French bits, he's leaning over to his kids and going, 'This is about mum!'"
However the highlight of the night for the 68-year-old was playing 'Ebony and Ivory' with Stevie Wonder live for the first time.
Describing the experience an obviously moved Sir Paul said, "It brought back memories of when I wrote it, and when we recorded it. There was no chance of having a black president. I mean, it was just the remotest thing ever, so to be there, singing it with Stevie, and two yards away from the black president, his wife and kids, it was very emotional actually. So yeah, I was humbled and grateful."
