Band of Horses Get Fired Up by Jalapenos

If you catch Band of Horses out on the road this summer and are blown away by the band's stacked harmonies, then you may have an unlikely ally to thank: jalapeno chilies.
Guitarist Tyler Ramsey tells Spinner the lush harmonies that adorn the band's new album, 'Infinite Arms,' have been a challenge to realise during their live shows. And in search of a surefire remedy to rid throats of frogs, rasps, gurgles and burrs, the band have been adding some unlikely choices to the rider.
"I think everybody's got their different method," Ramsey says. "Whiskey does work. All of a sudden there were hot peppers and jalapeños showing up on the rider, so some people in the band are definitely into those. I don't know if it's good for the voice, but it definitely gets you going."
Ramsey, who joined the band in 2007, will have plenty of opportunities to test the harmony-helping attributes of our peppery friend. The band have already embarked on a continent-straddling tour to take their third album -- their first since leaving Sub Pop for the embrace of Columbia -- which will see then flit between the UK to the US, Europe, Japan and Australia before the autumn beckons.
For Ramsey, who joined the band before recording 'Infinite Arms,' the tours this time will have an extra element.
"For me, not being on 'Cease to Begin' but touring that record for as long as we did, it's a thrill to be able to play the parts that I came up with in the studio and just really get to play them in front of people."
'Infinite Arms,' which was released this week, sees Band of Horses hone a kind of Cosmic California sound -- all West Coast harmonies and scuzzed-up guitars. With the likes of 'Laredo' and the sunny power pop of 'Dilly,' they've made a more-than-decent job of applying for Teenage Fanclub's job should the Scottish outfit ever decide to call it a day.
For part of this summer's tour, the band will take to the road as guests of fellow Seattleites Pearl Jam. "We're excited, it's going to be fun to see them," says Ramsey. "They're supposed to put on an incredible live show, so it'll be fun. I'm excited to see how it works out."
