As Britain goes to the polls on Thursday in the 2010 general election, Noel Gallagher has revealed he will not be voting and will spoil his ballot paper instead. In an interview with the Football Association's television channel FA TV, he said, "Me and my missus [girlfriend Sara McDonald] were going on about [the election], and she's saying, 'Who you voting [for]?' and I said, 'I'm not voting for anyone.'"
However, the former Oasis songwriter and guitarist said rather than any political parties, he would pledge allegiance instead to Manchester City star football player Carlos Tevez. He explained, "I'm just gonna take me voting card and I'm gonna put in massive letters, 'Tevez is God.'"
Such is Gallagher's devotion to the club's Argentinian star, he is also considering naming his forthcoming baby after him.
He said, "The new baby, if it's a boy -- Sara doesn't know this yet -- it's definitely going to be called Carlos ... or just Tevez. Tevez Gallagher. Carlito Gallagher. She doesn't know this, but I'll nip out to the Marylebone Registry Office while she's having a nap."
As NME.com reports, Gallagher famously visited 10 Downing Street in July 1997, when Tony Blair held a reception for high-profile figures in British culture who'd supported the Labour Party's successful bid to get into government in May that year. The event produced the iconic photograph of the Britpop legend sipping champagne with the newly elected Prime Minister.
