Some exciting news for the electronic music fans: Toronto quartet Holy F--- will be unleashing their second full length album, called 'Latin,' on May 11. The band revealed the details of the album on Friday -- on occasionally lewd site Chatroulette.com -- and gave anxious fans a chance to hear first single 'Latin America.' Founding member Graham Walsh is very pleased with the record, but he told Spinner that, after spending the last year putting it together -- he engineered it himself -- he's not stopping to rest now that it's finished.
"It's funny, you have to deliver the record [to the label] so early, so [long] before the release date, that I'm already like, 'I've delivered it and I've had this time off and I'm already starting to work on new ideas,' " Walsh says. "'Let's get this album out, I'm ready to start making the next one. '"
The band, which began as a side project back in 2004 and is now Walsh and Brian Borcherdt's primary focus, has always had a revolving-door rhythm section, moving drummers and bassists in and out of the lineup as schedules permitted. Walsh is glad to have finally enlisted a pair of players in Matt Schultz and Matt McQuaid to solidify the lineup, though the band made sure to keep things from getting too comfortable.
"The thing I like about this [album] is the balance," Walsh says. "As much as I'm enjoying the consistent lineup and that common thread though every song... I still think that there's some good variation to keep the album interesting for people, especially since it's instrumental music."
Hopefully the fans at Austin's annual SXSW festival agree -- the band has eight performances scheduled to unveil their new songs. Though it's a grueling weekend for any band, Walsh says playing the festival is a lot of fun because its hectic pace complements their music.
"You're kinda half-drunk, you maybe ate too many pulled-pork sandwiches the night before, and the people are waiting there to see you -- then you just get up there and have at it.
"I'm just thinking back to some of the parties we played last year where you're kinda rammed into a corner and there's 200 kids squashed into this hot, sweaty room and you're kinda stressed 'cause you didn't get a soundcheck. But still, it's sloppy and loud and distorted and awesome."
