Pop singer Daryl Hall's Internet show, 'Live From Daryl's House,' will screen the second part of his winter trip to Jamaica this month. While February's edition of the show featured legendary rock steady masters, Toots and the Maytals, Hall returns to his pop roots with a taping of his performance with partner John Oates at the 2010 Jamaica Jazz and Blues Festival. "It all started with John Oates wanting a free vacation," Hall jokes with Spinner about the Caribbean trip. "Actually, we did a show in Brooklyn last summer and the promoters of the festival were there and asked us if we wanted to do it, so I immediately thought 'I'm going to do some taping down there.' Bumping into people like Toots -- I'd never met him before, but I knew people who knew him -- that was just a great, real Jamaican experience."
The March episode also features reggae crooner Maxi Priest and Trinidadian pop singer Billy Ocean. "It's what we do here, but sort of a 'Darryl's House' onstage," Hall explains of the location performances. "I love occasionally taking it on the road."
Hall usually films performances for the show in the barn at his rural New York home and he intends to following up with more road shows beginning at this summer's Bonnaroo festival, where he'll perform with electro hip-hop duo Chromeo.
"I'm really going to treat it like a show. It's going to be me, my band and them onstage all the time, and we'll try and create that 'Live at Daryl's House' feeling." Hall and Chromeo teamed up for episode ten of 'Darryl's House,' making for one of the series most intriguing hookups. "That was an early show. I didn't really know how we were going to do it. But they really stepped up."
Check out Hall's Jamaican vacation beginning on Mar. 15 at the 'Live at Daryl's House' website.
