Sean Lennon Defends Yoko Ono

John LennonIf you can't imagine John Lennon wanting to be in a car commercial, you're not alone. But you're also out of luck -- Lennon not only appears, posthumously of course, in a current commercial for French automobile maker Citroen, but the clip actually connects footage of him talking about creative invention to images of Citroen's luxury DS3 model. As always, outraged fans blamed Yoko Ono.

On Tuesday, Lennon's son, Sean Lennon, defended his mom while respecting his dad. Taking to Twitter, he wrote: "She did not do it for money. Has to do w hoping to keep dad in public consciousness. No new LPs, so TV ad is exposure to young."

A valid point, to be sure, but the commercial is still, perhaps, a little unsettling to Beatles fans who consider things like high-end automobile endorsements undermining Lennon's true legacy as an artist, as well as his integrity as a public figure. Click here to view a YouTube of the actual commercial.

"Having just seen the ad I realize why people are mad," Sean followed up, on Twitter. "But intention was not financial, was simply wanting to keep him out there in the world."

In the clip, Lennon is seen discussing why we shouldn't look to the past for inspiration. "Once a thing's been done, it's been done," he says. "So why all this nostalgia?" Oh, don't let the irony get past you.

Just saw a former Lennon friend & roadie interview who said when Lennon first met Yoko, Lennon thought 'she was a real nutter'. After that she pretty much 'stalked him til she wore him down'. Personally, I've always thought she was a gold-digger and that's all this is. I doubt that Lennon will ever be forgotten so it's only about the money.

I truly believe that Yoko Ono is not doing this ad to make money. She probably doing for the reason that she does not want anyone to forgot John Lennon. How could anyone forget this music icon? He was in every sense of the word an artist. He was a showman as well as his counterparts, George, Paul, and of course, Ringo. The Beatles will never be forgotton. Their music will always be a part of pop culture. John's music after the Beatles made an impression on me as well as everyone else all around the world. It is evident that John was a caring and peaceful person with a lot of personal demons that he got under control. He showed he was human just like the rest of us. Just when his life was really going forward in new and positive directions, he was taken from us by a man who obviously is mentally ill. I will never forget John and all his contributions to man and woman kind.

He's his father and her husband. If they choose to use his likeness in this way it's their business. It may not be everything or anything that John Lennon stood for but it's not disrespectful or degrading and I don't think he would have a problem with it. She knew him better than anyone else and although Beatle fans may not like it, that's the way it is and you have no choice but to live with it. May they be blessed, all of them.

Sean, your Father does not have a public consciousness deficit.
He's all over VH1.
Love you man , but Your Mom is deep in the wrong no matter how you sugar coat it.
Did john actually endorse that brand or any other automobile when he was alive?

Yoko Ono has given MILLIONS to charity. She just doesn't publicize these things. And, every time John's face or voice is heard, it is a positive beam of energy sent out into the universe. I am grateful for that.

I think Yoko is a complete idiot. Does she really think Johns real and true fans would ever believe she was doing something good? She always been greedy, so she should just admit she wanted more of Johns money. If not for him she would be nothing> and he would never agree to a car commercial

If I die at any point in the future my wife can do whatever the fuck she likes with my image. She can do whatever is in her best interest and however she sees fit. And if anyone who was a "fan" of my work attacked her and my son for doing it - even if it was in poor judgment - is just an asshole. She is his widow and Sean his son. leave them the fuck alone they have free reign to do whatever the hell they like. Seeing john on tv - even in a car commercial - just makes me smile.

Sean, Does she suffer from; coprophagia?

I urge you to get your own apartment and out from under her wing.

I am told that she had promised to donate a hundred bucks to Focus Adolescent Services, a group that saves the lives of American children.

There were also four others who received a letter saying that a few dollars were coming their way to help them.

I have yet to call the others, But Focusas has not received a dime from her. It would terrible that an organization dedicted to helping American's should have to close their doors. This economy does not help, and yet, I understand that they receive a million visitors a Month to their web site.

I reccon that you are a fine young man. Your Uncle Eric is always a person to whom you can turn.

Be of good cheer, your mum can take care of herself.

Sean, You might want to considser getting your own apartment and getting out from under your, "mother's wing'

I was told that she was going to donate to five organizations that help American children, five that were in need of a few dollars. She has not done so, and that was a year ago as I recall.

One was Focus Adolescent Services, to whom I understand she had said she was going to give $100.00. I am told zip has arrived.

I have yet to spaek with the others. What is a hundred to her? Why say you are going to do something and then not?

Good luck boy.
