New York's Webster Hall may have been hosting an '80s prom Saturday night, but Hesta Prynn had her own party downstairs at the Studio @ Webster Hall. Showcasing her new solo project, Prynn, part of the female hip-hop trio Northern State, played a free show to New Yorkers before heading to Austin for a few gigs.

Although she started her set with a Karen O-like vibe, Prynn just couldn't shake off her hip-hop ways and gave off a swagger that was clearly a little more gangster than rock 'n' roll; a portion of her song 'Seven Sisters' is reminiscent of 'I Hate You So Much Right Now' by Kelis. 'Can We Go Wrong,' the first song she released as a solo artist, was dubbed one of her more sad songs despite the fact it has a highly playful energy.

While her vocals are more prickly than fluid, Prynn always made sure the crowd was entertained. And with couples bumping and grinding to her set and mini dance battles happen on and off the stage, it looked like her mission was accomplished.
