Not a band to rest on its laurels, Southend's the Horrors are about to commence work on the follow-up to their critically-acclaimed sophomore album, 'Primary Colours.'

Having taken a stylistic detour from the garage rock of their debut, 'Strange House,' to the more experimental and noisier territory of its successor, bassist Rhys Webb said that the band would go where the inspiration takes them.

Speaking exclusively to Spinner, he said, "For us, it's just about playing together. As for what direction we're going in, there's certainly no conversation about what we're going to do next. I think that one of the things that inspired us with the last record was working with different instruments."

He also confirmed that the Horrors are taking matters into their own hands.

"What's really exciting about this [new] record is that we're building our own studio," he revealed.

"[Portishead member and 'Primary Colours' producer] Geoff Barrow pretty much told us -- and taught us -- that we should be producing ourselves. We were very much involved in the production of the last record and at the moment we're still searching and finding all the things we need for our own studio space."

He added: "I'm really excited about it and I can't wait! And I think [the new album] will be better than 'Primary Colours.'"
