Jakob Dylan, 'Nothing But the Whole Wide World' -- Song Premiere

Jakob DylanFor his second solo album, 'Women and Country,' Jakob Dylan is getting help from a longtime friend, who just happens to be one of the hottest producers in the business -- T-Bone Burnett. Though they worked together on the Wallflowers' 1996 breakout album, 'Bringing Down the Horse,' the pair head in a country and folk direction on this album. Dylan's maturity and versatility as a songwriter is apparent on the album track 'Nothing But the Whole Wide World,' which features Neko Case on backing vocals.

"I've known Jakob since he was a kid and have followed his evolution with great interest," Burnett tells Spinner. "When he first sat down with a guitar and played me 'Nothing But the Whole Wide World,' it was clear that he had taken several steps forward in his songwriting -- that he was writing folk music, which is another way of looking at popular music. I'm so happy to be collaborating with Jakob at this exciting and vital time in his life as an artist, and I think this new album is an important work from a great musician."

Whenever I'm wondering
"What good is an angel who can't keep up?"

I remember this beautiful message a song gave me once:
"You've got to slow your engines when God is in pursuit."

You can look it up if you haven't heard it yet, it's called
Stardust Uni-Verse . . .

"Lightness has a call that's hard to hear" Indigo Girls

It's heaven to hear Neko so soft and subtle.
She only sings on two chosen lines in the main verses,
and it makes the lines shimmer with the freedom expressed in the words.

Softness and silence are so underrated in the human world . . . glad to hear these spirits managing to come through. LOVE+MUSIC.

Love the first 2 -- usually I can't tell on just one play, but these are nice.

One concern -- I hope they crank the Neko on some of these songs. Too smooth here for what she can really do. (BTW - is that her on the horse - can't tell on my little computer).

It's sad to me that so many people are saying "I miss the Wallflowers". Yes, the Wallflowers was a great band, mainly for Bringing Down the Horse, but if you listened to his last album at all, or saw him live on one of the few occasions, especially Rothbury 2008 in the first row, you would know how amazing he is as a solo musician. I would take On Up the Mountain over One Headlight any day. Keep rocking out Jakob Dylan. Amazing.

Ooops... Jakob's been listening to Daddy's John Prine CDs...

But that's actually a good thing... Listen to daddy Jakob. Daddy knows best.

That's EXACTLY what I thought. In fact, I thought we was doing a cover of a John Prine song, but I just couldn't put my finger on which song...

As a looong time fan of the Wallflowers, and Jakobs last cd....this sounds great. He is such a nice person to meet also, and they put on great live shows.

Heres the thing.....i think Jakob would get a little more success if he did like darius rucker and went country.
