Jimi Hendrix, 'Valleys of Neptune' -- Video Premiere

Jimi HendrixAside from his songwriting and legendary guitar playing, Jimi Hendrix was known for his visuals, whether it be trippy album covers or his acrobatic, intense stage presence. Now, with the cover art and video for his new single, 'Valleys of Neptune,' we get a glimpse into Jimi's ability as a painter as well.

According to Experience Hendrix CEO Janie Hendrix, her brother originally wanted to be an artist. "He went through a phase doing watercolors at school and this was one of the 110 drawings of his that our father kept," she tells Spinner. "When I saw this one from 1957, it screamed 'Valleys of Neptune' so we just knew we'd use it for this project."

That painting is used as a motif throughout the video -- produced by String Theory Design -- for 'Valleys of Neptune,' the title track of an upcoming album, due March 9, of studio tracks Hendrix recorded in 1969. The songs capture Jimi's transition from the Experience, the group that originally made him famous, to his later work, which was cut short by his death in 1970. Have a look at the video below.

Pretty weak for a Hendrix song, the video is kindengarden level. Be honest with yourself... Hendrix music is horrible and sloppy guitar playing.

I have a 2LP boot from ca. 1986, HOOCHIE COOCHIE MAN, that has this song. It simply had not been available on CD. I believe part of VON was on the LIFELINES box set but was ruined by the same voice over that made most of that set useless (except for disc 4, (LA Forum live 1969). There are similar bootleg CD tracks without the vox, however.

MY MAN JIMI H. NOW HE WAS SOMEONE TO SEE IN CONCERT. I GREW UP IN NEW YORK AND BEFORE WOODSTOCK WE WENT TO SEE HIM AT THE FILMORE EAST. HE TORE THE PLACE APART. EVERYONE THERE WAS BLOWN AWAY BY HIM. THERE WERE A FEW PEOPLE YOU JUST HAD TO GO SEE BACK IN THE LATE 60'S. JIMI WAS ONE AND SLY WAS THE OTHER. FOR $2.50 WE WENT TO CONCERTS. I ALSO SAW SANTANA THERE WITH 3 DOG NIGHT SHA NA NA AND CANNED HEAT WHO WERE BOOD OFF THE STAGE.
3 DOG NIGHT WE THOUGHT WAS A BUBBLE GUM GROUP BUT THEY ALSO BLEW US AWAY. SANTANA AND SHA NA NA IN 1968 WERE NOT EVEN KNOWN. WE HAD A BLAST BACK THEN AND DIDN'T HAVE TO PAY $250.00 FOR A GOOD SEAT. THOSE WERE THE DAYS AND I MISS THEM. I MISS THE ONES THAT WE LOST TO DRUGS. MOST OF MY FRIENDS AND MYSELF GOT INTO THE STRONG DRUGS EARLY. THOSE ARE THE THINGS I DON'T MISS ABOUT THOSE DAYS. IT'S UNFORTUNATE THAT HEROIN HAS MADE A COME BACK. I WILL TELL ANYONE WHO IS READING THIS. DON'T MESS WITH THE DOPE. IT IS A LIFE LONG BATTLE IF YOU DO. I AM SPEAKING FROM EXPERIANCE. ONE IS TO MANY AND A MILLION IS NOT ENOUGH.
