Litte Boots Prepares to Release 'Hands' in the US

Little BootsAlmost a year after she put the finishing touches on her debut album in Los Angeles, British electro-pop chanteuse Little Boots is dropping that effort, 'Hands,' stateside.

"We just wanted to do America properly," Little Boots, aka Victoria Hesketh, tells Spinner. "So many people just go over there and almost do it as an afterthought, go over for a week and just throw the album out and do a couple of shows. I spent a lot of time in America making the album and I really enjoy it over there."

Despite the delay, Hesketh hopes the March 2 release of the album on Elektra and a cross-country trek beginning the same night in New York City will please the fans that fell for her on her string of tour dates in 2009.

"I think it's probably quite good actually that we've left it even though it's frustrating for the American fans," she says. "[Now] we're doing a pretty big tour and get to come and spend some time out there."

Hesketh recently returned to L.A. for some record company business and to do some new writing, but she tells Spinner the songs that make up 'Hands' still ring true to who she is.

"I'm definitely moving on a bit in some ways in where my head's at. [I'm] excited about making the next record now and the future, but we're just actually in our first rehearsal back, and it's still really fun," she says. "I'm always changing. After having a break over Christmas, I feel a bit like I've got lots of new ideas now, but it doesn't mean that I'm any less bothered about the old songs."

While plenty of things have changed in Hesketh's own life thanks to her success abroad, she plans to keep her lyrics close to home.

"[My life] has changed a lot, but I don't think it has anything to do with money. I'm still not earning a particularly huge amount of money," she explains. "My songs aren't really about that. I'm not gonna go and write a whole load of songs for my next record about being rich and famous because I don't really feel like I am and I don't think that's something that everyone can relate to."

One thing in her own life that will be easy for others to relate to when she eventually does put it down into song, is how she sees love these days.

"In my personal life a lot of things have changed for me. When I wrote a lot of the record, I had been single for quite a long time and now I've been in a happy relationship for quite a while so I think I'm over thinking about broken heart, which is quite nice because it frees you up to think about other things," she says, laughing.
