Hot Chip Will 'Definitely' Release Live Album

Hot Chip's Alexis TaylorFans of U.K. electro-pop act Hot Chip can attest that their live show is something of a majestic experience. Swirling lights, climatic crescendos and the band's willingness to mess with their own arrangements typically make for a memorable experience. While many bands' live albums come out as a way to make some cash, other acts, as in Hot Chip's case, release the concert experience because the fans are hungry for it.

"A lot of people say they prefer how we sound live," Hot Chip's Joe Goddard tells Spinner. "It's rawer, louder -- it has more energy at times. It's less mannered. We'll definitely be having a go at that."

It's not that Hot Chip have been oblivious to the notion that they excel in concert and haven't been mulling a live record; logistically it's been a tough to get anything concrete going. "We've talked about it for years," Goddard says. "We've recorded different shows over the past few years. What tends to happen is that we spend loads of money recording a show -- we recorded our last show at the Brixton Academy in London and we've had U.S. tours where we've recorded different shows -- so you have a hard drive full of different tracks but we never get around to mixing that. Then someone will be like 'I'm really out of tune at that point' and the actual work that goes into that, we've never really got it completed."

Hot Chip are about to kick off a large-scale tour next month in support of their forthcoming record, 'One Life Stand.' They'll hit the U.K. in February, the rest of Europe in March and head to the U.S. in late April for Coachella 2010 and a mini-tour with the XX. "It seems like an obvious and simple thing to do these days," Goddard reflects on putting out a live recording. "You can even record the show and give it to people immediately after. I'd be into trying that."

'One Life Stand' is out Feb. 9 on Astralwerks.
