Canadian folk artist Timber Timbre's eponymous album has topped the 2009 Eye Weekly national music critics poll, beating out stiff competition from international groups Girls and Animal Collective -- the latter also tied with Lady Gaga for 'Most Overrated' -- to take the title.

Having been tragically overlooked for the country's other critically judged national accolade, the Polaris Prize, the Toronto-based singer-songwriter's win even managed to shock the poll's organizers, who claimed the victory as proof that, "Good music transcends money, ratings, hype and even the blogosphere."

Voted on by 59 of Canada's top music critics -- including several Spinner writers -- the 19th annual poll also named Dirty Projectors' 'Stillness is the Move' as the year's best single, as well as crowning Arcade Fire's 'Funeral' the album of the decade.

On the not-so-cheery end of the spectrum, the Black Eyed Peas took the top two spots for 'Worst Single' -- with 'Boom Boom Pow' narrowly edging out 'I Gotta Feeling' for the less-than-coveted top spot -- and former Soundgarden singer Chris Cornell's head-scratching collaboration with Timbaland, 'Scream,' was named 'Worst Album.'
