Pavement and Broken Social Scene to Co-Headline Toronto Island Concert

Pavement fans in Toronto can rejoice today. The California-based indie rock pioneers have named Hogtown the first Canadian date of their 2010 reunion tour, which will bring Stephen Malkmus and the gang to Broken Social Scene's quasi-annual Toronto Island Concert on June 19.

The highly-anticipated event marks the first time the influential '90's outfit have played Toronto in over a decade and adds to reunion appearances already announced at New York City's Central Park, Seattle's Sasquatch festival, Denmark's Roskilde fest and the Pavement-curated All Tomorrow's Parties in the UK this coming May.

Co-headling the June 19 festival gig will be indie heavyweights Broken Social Scene, who have helped organize several similar concerts on Toronto Island in the past featuring the likes of Modest Mouse, Bloc Party and Dinosaur Jr alongside BSS affiliates such as Metric and Feist.

While Pavement's reunion is in support of the legends' forthcoming greatest hits album, 'Quarantine the Past: The Best of Pavement,' available March 9 via Matador, the full-day event will offer Broken Social Scene the opportunity to give their hometown crowd their first taste of the Toronto darlings' super long-awaited new album, which they've been recording in Chicago with Tortoise's John McEntire.

Sub Pop recording artist Band of Horses are also on the bill, but the rest of the lineup will be announced closer to the concert date. Fans have the opportunity to purchase pre-sale tickets from the Arts&Crafts site starting January 18 before tickets become available to the general public on January 22.

If you can't wait to catch the massive co-headlining event this summer, Broken Social Scene is slated to open for Pavement at London's Brixton Academy on May 13.
