Neko Case Takes Over Turner Classic Movies

Neko CaseIf having one of the finest voices in rock wasn't enough, Neko Case tried her hand at television programmer last night when she took over Turner Classic Movies. Case -- who is responsible for 'Middle Cyclone', one of 2009's best discs -- sat down with host Robert Osborne to chat about and introduce her four movie selections for the channel.

Case chose Woody Allen's 'Radio Days,' Orson Welles' 'The Third Man', Albert Lewin's 'The Picture of Dorian Gray' and Elia Kazan's 'A Face in the Crowd'. Speaking about the unique approach to exposing her new album, Case told television blog Zap2It, "Luckily for me, I have really great publicists, and when we started to decide what kind of stuff we wanted to do promote the record, they said, 'Is there anything you really want to do?' And I said, 'All I want is to get on TCM to be a guest programmer. Please! And luckily they let me do it.'"

As for the aforementioned 1987 Allen classic, Neko said, "I love Woody Allen. I think, in a way, that [is] one of his most lighthearted movies. I love the idea that he wrote a film based on -- he said that he had made a list of songs that evoked really strong feelings from him. And then his list of songs turned into an idea for a movie, and I just thought that was so beautiful."

On a related note, fans hoping to catch Case do what she does best should tune into the Dec. 16 episode of Elvis Costello's 'Spectacle' on the Sundance Channel to catch her performing alongside Sheryl Crow, Ron Sexsmith and Jesse Winchester.
