F---ed Up to Record All-Star 'Do They Know It's Christmas' Cover

After pocketing the $20,000 Polaris Music Prize for best Canadian album in September, hardcore heroes F---ed Up announced they'd be using the money to record a charity single. Now singer Damian Abraham has announced it will be a cover of Band Aid's 1982 colonialist classic 'Do They Know It's Christmas.'

In an interview with New York magazine, Abraham revealed the all-star guest list, which includes Broken Social Scene, David Cross, Vampire Weekend, TV on the Radio, Bob Mould, No Age, Yo La Tengo and indie-loving rapper GZA. He's still waiting on word from M.I.A., Jarvis Cocker and Feist (who last night replaced an ill Kristin Chenoweth to perform in Toronto for upscale retailer Holt Renfrew's holiday window display unveiling, an event which also raised money for the United Way).

While the original single tried to tackle famine relief in Africa, F---ed Up's cover will raise money to address smaller but no less pressing problems, including missing and murdered aboriginal women in Canada.

None of the '80s participants are on this indie-oriented cover, but Abraham says, "We wanted the biggest people we could get. If we could get a Jonas Brother on this, I would get a Jonas Brother."

    So what about Bono?

"If Bono wanted to be on the record, I'd say yes, because, at the end of the day, it's about raising money and awareness. As terrible as I find his music and as reprehensible as I find him as a person, I would definitely have him on."
