R.E.M., 'Man-Sized Wreath' (Live From Dublin) -- Video Premiere

One of the most exhilarating parts of being in a band is performing new material in front of an audience for the first time. Alt-rock titans R.E.M. captured that nervous excitement for their latest release, 'R.E.M. Live at the Olympia.' The double-disc features the band running through the songs that would go on to become 2008's 'Accelerate' in front of friends, family and a handful of their biggest fans.

The high contrast black-and-white adds a cinematic film quality in the following video as Michael Stipe and Co. command the crowd's attention with a performance of 'Man-Sized Wreath.' Though the experienced rockers appear confident, it was an "experiment in terror," according to guitarist Peter Buck. "Every second we were playing something we didn't know all that well, which was kind of good," he tells Spinner. Check out the exclusive video premiere after the jump.

Derry NH: Video comes thru just fine. Outstanding performance of an excellent song (this is their best record ever). The video style is a bit annoying because while I'm sure it's meant to be "artsy" all we really want is just to watch Michael, Mike, and Peter. We don't care about fancy angles and camera shots. You could've set up 3 stationary cameras aimed at the three guys, let 'em roll, and that would have been just fine with the audience.

I couldn't have said it better myself. Why watch an R.E.M. video if you can't see the guys?

The performance is fantastic. I just would rather watch the band than only have peeks at funky artistic angles. The filming can be a distraction as if you're at a concert sitting behind a column.

Ever wonder what it would be like to watch an REM concert from a prison cell with guards holding sheets in front of your bars in a stiff breeze?

    Wonder no more!

Been a huge REM fan for 20-some years and I can't imagine NOT appreciating whatever they might do in the future as they grow ... but for pete's sake, please STOP with the opaque arty video crap like this.
