Sloan Bassist Recovering After Being Hit by Drunk Driver

Last Friday, Sloan bassist Chris Murphy was hospitalized with a broken collarbone when he was thrown from his bicycle after being struck by a drunk driver in a hit-and-run accident. Murphy also incurred assorted cuts and bruises and was released the next day to convalesce at home.

The iconic Nova Scotia band released a statement saying, "We're confident that he will have a full recovery and he has not sustained any critical injuries." Murphy will require additional surgery this week, according to a post on Sloan's Twitter page. They also urge fans to "kick a drunk driver in the face for us."

Despite the pending operation, Murphy still plans on taking the stage with Sloan at Halifax 's Citadel Hall this Sunday when the band's show goes on as planned. Murphy will have to forgo his routine bass duties and occasional drumming for the gig but he will be able to sing. The Sloan camp says, "Other members of the band will pitch in, swapping instruments to cover for him as required through the performance."

While Murphy is expected to have a full recovery, the remainder of Sloan's upcoming summer dates are in doubt. Meanwhile the suspect's days on the lam seem numbered. According to the band's statement, "Witnesses were able to report the license number and model of the vehicle, and police are now investigating."

It is astounding how you people wear your stupidity with such pride. Sloan has been making fantastic music for 20 years and they are one of Canada's most popular bands. You people don't know who they are because Americans are fatheaded sheep who listen to whatever is on the radio and buy what they are told. Do you not realize that you are slaves to a music industry that doesn't even care about music?

Abrady21: Sorry if I bothered you with my problems. I was hit by a car,{drunk driver} and have been disabled ever since. The reason the duputy is terifing me is because he is a bully. He is harassing other disabled people here too. I thought I was the only one he was bothering, and I told some other disabled people, and they have been bothered by him too. We are going to press charges against him together. When I went to his superior, he made him apoligize to me, but I saw the look in his eyes, and I am still afraid of him.

DEBRA, dear, what are you doing? You should be discussing this with the proper authoritys, and why would a officer be harrassing you? You should have never put your address out on the internet. You are compromising your safety, and for what?

The government will never stop drinking because they control the liquor sales. Lighten up on the smokers and tax the heck out of liquor. Congress alone will increase revenue 30% lol

Hope that he's doing better soon....having seen the band five times, knowing how they rock, it would be a loss to cut back on potential tour dates. For those who aren't familiar with the band, they have 4 very capable lead singers (and writers) and quite insightful lyrics, combined with classic rock oriented melodies. Check them out! Hope Chris recovers quickly.
