Spinnerette, 'Baptized by Fire' -- Video Premiere

As the frontwoman of Spinnerette, Brody Dalle is used to the attention that comes with her position at center stage. Being the sole human focus of her outfit's videos, however, isn't something she's comfortable with yet. "Yeah, it's weird," she tells Spinner of the new video for 'Baptized by Fire,' from the band's self-titled debut, which features Dalle all alone on a mysterious beach. "I didn't really want to do that."

Originally, Dalle's longtime pal, Spinnerette guitarist Tony Bevilacqua, was set to appear as a "black figure looming around in the background," but he bowed out before the shoot because he "thought it was going to take away from the whole thing," according to Dalle. Under the direction of Brit Chris Hopewell, whose pedigree includes Radiohead's 'There There,' and The Killers' 'Smile Like You Mean It,' Dalle, sans Tony, spent two days in front of the camera on a windy beach in Dungeness, England, earlier this year for the video. "There was like this incessant wind," she says of the chilly shoot. "It was like the coast of England. It's like Kent or some s--- like that and it's like godd--- freezing. It never is not windy."

Originally, the clip to accompany the song -- which Dalle notes is about "transformation" -- was set to be filmed in black and white but after seeing the photos of the setting, she asked for full color pallet. "I think in the '60s, all these dudes just left their boats there. Something happened and they couldn't go back and use the land really, except for these tracks to get down to the water," she says of the beach. "There's a nuclear plant ... so you're not really supposed to go in the water. I think you might turn into a mutant if you go in the water. It's really stunning and it's all shingled with like these tiny rocks."

Though watching herself on-screen makes Dalle uncomfortable, she told Spinner she was pleased with the end result, even if the shingled beach cost her a favorite pair of shoes. "I think it turned out good. I like the shots of the sun, dude," she says. "That's my favorite part."

So, she's kind of like a stranded sea-faring woman perhaps?... waiting for something, change.
It's very beautiful. There was too much wind, but that couldn't be help in the situation.
Keep producing beautiful videos just like this one!

I'm really liking the new Spinnerette record. I didn't know what to expect but it's fabulous! Not one song on it that I don't like.
