Courtney Love Resurrecting Hole

Courtney Love is reviving Hole for her next album, 'Nobody's Daughter', which is expected by early 2010. But if you're expecting the return of the band's co-founding guitarist, Eric Erlandson, you're out of luck, as Love takes a cue from her old friend Billy Corgan by resurrecting her band in name only.

Hole's first record since 1998's 'Celebrity Skin' will feature bassist Melissa Auf der Maur -- on backing vocals only. And although Auf der Maur will tour with Hole, the disc is predominantly the work of Love and English guitarist Micko Larkin, with songwriting assistance from pop tunesmith Linda Perry and production duties rounded out by Michael Beinhorn.

Love says the project -- originally planned as a solo disc -- went "from being an aspiration of [Bob Dylan's] 'Blood On the Tracks' to ... [David Bowie's] 'Diamond Dogs'" in an interview this week with NME. "It's huge, like a big, fist-shaped hole."

"The rock Courtney didn't really go away, but I needed a rock partner," she adds of Larkin, of defunct London band Larrikin Love. "I have my rock partner now. I am old enough to be his cool auntie."

While there's no word on that tampon sponsorship Love once blogged about, or a label deal for that matter, Courtney insists she's back and wearing her "first pair of leather pants in 20 years."

It will be interesting to see what transpires on this promised release. While we can hope that the grit, angst, and intensity of Courtney's earlier days will be there; but my expectations are tempered with the knowledge of what happens to one with the passing of time... She's had a lot of stops and starts since Hole broke up, but most people don't know about the precedent-setting lawsuit against standard music industry practises that she has fought singlehandedly, and out of HER OWN POCKET; no less ! The public and the media can say what they will about her, but Courtney Love, the artist; is invincible -- and will be an historical influence in the world of rock for generations. You go, girl !
